Beejamrut is prepared from cow dung, cow urine, a little lime, and water, sometimes with a pinch of soil. The dung and urine carry helpful microbes, while the lime helps keep harmful ones in check. It is one of the oldest steps in natural farming, and one of the simplest.
A seed and its first tiny roots are at their most fragile in the days after sowing, when soil-borne and seed-borne diseases do the most harm. Coating the seed in Beejamrut before it goes into the ground gives it a protective layer of good microbes, so it germinates strong and even, with no chemical seed treatment at all.
We treat the seed with Beejamrut just before sowing, coating it and letting it dry in the shade. It is a small step that sets the tone for everything after: a strong, healthy start, grown clean from the very first day.
