The Problem, Plainly
Most food today is grown to be cheap and fast, with the help of chemicals. Here is what that really means, without any alarm, just the plain facts.
Chemicals sprayed to kill insects, weeds, and fungus. They are toxic by design, and small amounts can stay on or in the food we eat.
Factory-made nutrients that push fast growth but do little for the long-term health of the soil beneath the crop.
Traces of these chemicals can remain on food by the time it reaches the plate. Safe limits exist, but not every sample stays within them.
Health Over Time
Pesticides are made to kill living things, so it is fair to ask what they do to us. The World Health Organization puts it plainly: pesticides are potentially toxic to humans, and can have short-term and long-term effects depending on how much a person is exposed to and in what way.[1]
The greatest risk falls on the farm workers who handle these chemicals directly. For the rest of us, the concern is smaller, everyday amounts through the food we eat.[1]
Some common chemicals have raised real questions. The World Health Organization’s cancer research agency classified glyphosate, one of the most widely used weedkillers, as probably able to cause cancer in people.[3] Other regulators have reached different conclusions and the science is still being studied, which is exactly why care, and being able to see how your food is grown, matter so much.

The Bigger Picture
This is not a small or distant problem. It has grown quietly across the world and here in India, which is why it is worth understanding.
Around the world, about 3.7 million tonnes of pesticides are now used on farms every year, roughly double the amount used in 1990. India is part of that story too. When the national food regulator tested tens of thousands of food samples, most were within safe limits, but a share carried pesticide residues above them, and traces were found in many more.
